Motez is a name that needs little introduction. Having crafted some of the most popular originals and remixes in dance music over his illustrious career, garnering support across the airwaves of Radio 1, Beats 1 and Triple J amongst others, the Iraqi-born producer returns today with ‘The Future,’ a summery jam featuring London-based duo Antony & Cleopatra.
Moving away from his usual club-friendly productions, ‘The Future’ is a relaxed and soulful house record that, together with Antony & Cleopatra’s vocals and a twenty-piece children’s choir, encapsulates a sense of purity and serenity often lacking in much of electronic music today. Antony and Cleopatra, whose signature call and response vocals delicately form the topline, provide the track with depth and lyrical interest, underpinned by Motez’s deft production.
Taken as a whole, the record exemplifies Motez’s immense versatility as a producer, and is illustrative of his ability to capture a particular mood in three and a half minutes.
Motez: “The Future is a song I wrote a few years ago with my good friend Alex Burnett. It’s a song about a relationship that came to a conclusion and all of a sudden I found myself facing the path of an uncertain future. It’s about the fundamental truth that sometimes we inevitably grow apart, and while we mourn a love lost, we celebrate that we once loved and were loved.”
Alongside the record comes an intimate video that plays on this theme, following two dancers as they ebb and flow to the music on a rooftop. Set in reversed time, and mirroring the song’s alchemy of emotional synths, a laidback bassline and sturdy percussion, the pair’s routine provides the perfect accompaniment to this soulful cut.
Motez will soon embark on ‘The Future’ tour, which will see him perform his unique live show across North America at HARD Summer, Night Bass and Brooklyn’s House Of Yes. He will then return for his biggest Australia tour to date as he gears up for the second half of the year. Stay up to date with all new announcements via his socials:
